Another part, smaller but more insistent, has had enough. That part of him will be glad when it’s over, except of course he won’t know, he'll be transported back to before his conception. That seems a price worth paying.

Plenty have paid that unimaginable price, great minds among them – he wouldn’t be going alone, there’s a crowd at the other end which for the first time in history is slightly smaller than the crowd he’d be leaving behind; he’d be getting away from the crowds, getting some space...

Hook takes his laptop and writes his article for Karen, one he hopes might make some sort of sense, a story his children might be proud of. Then he turns on his ‘out of office’ assistant and waits to commune with the sun.
